Mark the way the task needs

Different work needs different marking, so gradIQual gives you distinct modes — and you choose. You tell gradIQual what kind of task you're marking at the start, and it adapts how it reads the work, what it grounds itself in, and what it gives back.

Standard: developmental feedback

For everyday work — homework, classwork, quizzes, essays, and short written tasks. gradIQual reads each submission and writes growth-oriented feedback against your criteria, naming strengths and clear next steps. It's a single, focused pass built for the work that fills a teacher's week.

Why teachers care: the bulk of marking is everyday work, and this is the mode that gives that work proper feedback at speed.

Assessment: marks against a paper

For longer, test-style papers where you want marks against a paper, mark scheme, rubric, or set of questions. gradIQual works question by question, treating your mark scheme as the source of truth and showing its reasoning for the marks it gives. It is built for accuracy against the scheme — not for guessing. It is not official exam marking, and gradIQual does not offer that. On Free you get one assessment paper to try; on Pro you get six a year, with extras available per class set.

Why teachers care: assessment-style marking is where consistency matters most, and this mode keeps the mark scheme in charge.

Coursework and NEA — a private design-partner programme

Marking coursework and non-exam assessment (NEA) is genuinely hard, and we're getting it right with a small number of partner schools before offering it more widely. It's currently a private design-partner programme rather than a feature you can switch on. If coursework marking is something you need, get in touch and tell us about it.

Why teachers care: we'd rather be honest that this is in careful development than over-claim it.
